Space Center Houston opened in the fall of 1992 to tell the story of human space exploration to the public through engaging education and to inspire future generations. With a recent increased interest in space and space science, Space Center Houston has expanded quickly and needed room to meet the demand. Enter Junior Stewart, Facility Manager, in assisting the building of the Learning Innovation Center and a smaller extension for the Operations Department.
Attached to the main building at Space Center Houston are the facilities and operations departments where their offices required an extension for much needed space. The area includes an open cubicle area, a kitchen area, and conference rooms.
From Explorer Camps to educator workshops, the Learning Innovation Center serves many purposes to educate the next generation of explorers. The nonprofit needed a durable building, fast. The eight thousand square-foot building was completed in November 2017 and features classrooms with curtain walls to expand or separate the space, roof mounted HVAC packaged units and a covered patio for outdoor activities.
Whirlwind is proud to play a part in providing the materials to facilitate the needs of Space Center Houston as it grows and continues to inspire the public.
