Solar energy is one of the easiest ways to help save on energy costs while protecting the environment. Whirlwind has created Whirlwind Solar Energy Systems to offer our customers a renewable energy option. Available on four of our Standing Seam roof panels, Whirlwind Solar Energy Systems offers 1.5 Kilowatts to 120 Kilowatts depending on the customer’s individual needs.

Our system comes fully integrated, so when you specify Whirlwind Solar Energy systems, you get the complete package. Once your SES system is initiated, you will begin generating clean, renewable electric power that is sent directly into the power grid through the building’s electric meter.

What is it?

Whirlwind Solar Energy Systems is an amorphous BIPV (Building Integrated PhotoVoltaic) that is installed directly onto our standing seam roof panels in our manufacturing facility by experienced trained individuals, eliminating the need for any penetration through the roof panel making it safe, sound, and stable. It is also known as a Laminate Solar Panel or a Peel and Stick Solar Panel.

How does it work?

The Solar Energy system is applied directly onto the metal roof and then connected to the combiner box. The thin film “Peel and Stick” Solar panels then convert solar radiation or sunlight into DC electricity. The inverter changes the DC electricity into AC electricity so it can be readily used in your facility or home. The electric panel then distributes the AC electricity throughout the building to and from the utility grid.

The building continues to be connected to the Utility Grid in order for the facility to have access to power when the solar system is not producing power or little power.

Whirlwind Solar Energy Systems is currently offered in seven different sizes:
1.5kW, 2kW, 2.5kW, 3kW, 4kW, 5kW, 10kW, 15kW, 30kW, 60kW, and 120kW.

Whirlwind Solar Energy Systems vs. Crystalline Systems

Whirlwind’s Solar Energy System offers a variety of benefits that set it apart from Crystalline solar panels.

• Our SES does not penetrate the roof structure; it is applied directly to the metal roof so there is no worry about leakage or damage directly to the roof.
• Our SES is lightweight and flexible. There is no need for a stainless steel substrate as with standard crystalline products.
• With a typical crystalline solar panel if one small section goes out you lose the entire panel, however with our system, if one cell goes out the rest of the solar panels continue to produce renewable energy for you.
